Assistant Park Ranger

*Season: 01720-6413 – 25 Weeks (Approximately 04/20/2025 to 10/11/2025)

Hours: Special Schedule based on 96 hours in a two-week period

Housing is provided as a condition of employment: Kellogg Brook Cabin

BRIEF JOB DESCRIPTION: This is maintenance and personal services work in a remote recreational environment in the Allagash Wilderness Waterway. Typical duties include cleaning campsites, collecting fees, repairing facilities as needed, monitoring public use, responding to incidents, and maintaining equipment and records. The person in this position will be trained and certified in Wilderness First Aid, chainsaw operation, and boat operation as a requirement of this position. 

The person in this position must be able to live and work independently in remote conditions and must be able to operate a range of equipment including vehicles safely and efficiently, motorboats, radio systems, canoes with and without motors, chainsaws, and other power and hand tools.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Ability to follow directions.

LICENSING/REGISTRATION/TRAINING REQUIREMENTS: (These must be met by all employees prior to attaining permanent status in this class): Valid Class C Maine motor vehicle operator’s license.

Preference will be given to applicants with knowledge and qualifications in the following areas:

• Knowledge and experience working in a remote wilderness park.
• Knowledge and experience maintaining and operating generators, solar systems, chainsaw, snowmobiles, motorboats and canoes with motors.

Applicants must be able to meet the required training and certification requirements within a timeframe determined by the supervisor based on training opportunities.
