position Summary

The Assistant Education Manager works as part of a close-knit education team alongside the Education Manager, Livestock Coordinator, and seasonal education staff. Together, the team delivers approximately 600 programs annually, reaching nearly 10,000 participants.

This position is responsible for teaching a wide range of farm-based educational programs, assisting with department administration, and caring for program livestock and our education garden. The ideal candidate is excited to work directly with a wide range of people, enjoys building and improving systems, and is comfortable rolling up their sleeves in a dynamic farm environment.

We emphasize place-based, hands-on learning experiences for all ages, and run programs featuring sustainable agriculture, animal encounters, food security, and more. Our outdoor programming runs in all seasons and comes in a wide variety of formats. This is a flexible, hands-on role well suited to someone passionate about education, farming, and community engagement within a nonprofit agricultural setting. 

Key Responsibilities Education Programming

• Teach farm-based programs for people of all ages, including school field trips, afterschool programs, family programs, volunteer days, birthday parties, workshops, and occasional off-site visits.
• Take primary responsibility for our toddler programming, including a weekly seasonal cooking class
• Design and implement new programming
• Train and support seasonal education staff

Administrative Support

• Help with administrative work such as: communicating with visiting groups and families, scheduling staff and programs, record keeping, and updating lesson plans.
• Take a primary role in our summer programs, including managing hiring and registration.

Educational Farming Support

• Collaborate to design and maintain the education garden and other growing spaces
• Optionally: take leadership to care for our bee hives
• Assist with the management of education livestock (rabbits, chickens, ducks, quail and goats).

What We’re Looking For

• Ability to manage multiple priorities, stay organized, and adapt in a fast-paced, seasonal environment.
• experience working with a variety of age groups in an informal, hands-on setting
• Love and knowledge of education, farming, sustainability, food justice and natural sciences.
• Ability to work independently while also collaborating closely with a team.
• Strong communication skills and comfort working with people of all ages and backgrounds.
• Flexibility and reliability, including willingness to work weekends as required for animal care and programs.
• Enthusiasm for hands-on work, learning, and having fun outdoors.

While not required, candidates with interest or experience in the following areas are especially encouraged to apply: toddler care, cooking education, beekeeping, volunteer coordination, event planning, vegetable farming, or art education.

Schedule

• Ideal start date: September 9th, 2026 (flexible for the right candidate).
• Full-time position (35–40 hours/week), mostly onsite
• Sunday – Thursday schedule, approximately 9am-5pm from September – June.
• Summer schedule to be worked out with successful applicant, but likely 8am-4pm Monday-Friday
• Must be available for a minimum of  three Sundays per month, particularly during spring and fall.

February and April school vacation weeks, as well as May, July, August, and October, are peak periods. During these times, staff may work 40–45 hours per week and typically take additional time off outside peak periods.

Compensation & Benefits

• $18–$22.50/hour, based on experience.
