Course Description:

Introduction to the teaching of social studies (grades 1 to 6), drawing from disciplines such as economics, geography, history, law, and politics, as well as other fields within the humanities, including Indigenous studies. Exploration of a variety of ideas and issues related to social, political, economic, and environmental concerns. Analysis of teaching strategies that promote the learning of social studies in a minority francophone context, while supporting students and valuing their linguistic and cultural diversity. Integration of educational technology and critical thinking concepts in the teaching of social sciences and humanities

A Master’s degree in education specializing in social sciences and humanities is required.

Preference will be given to candidates with a Doctorate in education specializing in social sciences and humanities.

At least one of the following is required: recent full-time teaching experience in a school or administration within a school board, including two years of implementing the Ontario curriculum at the primary/junior/intermediate level, with a specialist qualification at the primary/junior/intermediate level OR a current, peer-reviewed research record in the subject area to be taught, OR a recent comprehensive examination (Ph.D.) in the subject area to be taught.

Demonstrated knowledge of the Ontario context in relation to the subject matter to be taught.

Proven ability to apply the professional practice standards and the Code of Ethics of the Ontario College of Teachers.

The University may consider experience or qualifications equivalent to those mentioned above.
