Job Summary:

The Oregon Sea Grant is seeking a salaried Academic Wage: Oregon Coast STEM Hub Coordinator (South Coast). This is a full-time (1.00 FTE), 12-month, fixed-term position.

This position is based on Oregon’s south coast and focuses on the coordination of south coast Oregon Coast STEM Hub (OCSH) operations and activities. This is a one-year appointment with the potential for extension, contingent on funding availability and the discretion of OCSH and Oregon Sea Grant leadership.

This position will be a member of the Oregon Sea Grant (OSG) – Oregon Coast STEM Hub (OCSH) Team, housed at Oregon State University’s Port Orford Field Station. The OCSH is a regional cross-sector collaborative that works to improve and guide transdisciplinary science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education in Oregon coastal communities. This Hub is a collective impact partnership that is overseen by OSG and is part of a larger statewide network of STEM Hubs funded and supported by the Oregon Department of Education. The OCSH is charged with leading the efforts of partners to create and deliver STEM educational programs designed to break through systemic barriers, provide inclusive access, expand opportunities, and build confidence in K-12 students.

The South Coast Coordinator will support the OCSH Director with planning, development and implementation of educator professional development, community events, and student activities to support Hub initiatives such as STEM Early Learning and Career-Connected Learning (job shadows, internships, etc.). This Coordinator will work closely with OCSH leadership, existing Program Coordinator, community partners, and educators. This position will design, develop, maintain and/or carry out educational programming and outreach activities to serve broad and diverse populations, including those that have been historically marginalized/excluded from participation, in an accessible, inclusive, equitable, and socially just manner. This includes complying with Civil Rights and Language/Visual Access regulations.

Collaborative work across disciplines, organizations, and programs areas is expected. Active and effective communication with colleagues, partners and key audiences is critical to the success of this position; wireless access may be necessary.

Key Responsibilities

45% – Plan, coordinates, and implements OCSH strategy and activities

• Work with the OCSH Director, staff, and partners to develop and facilitate professional development for educators in our region, as well as STEM and Career-Connected Learning activities and camps for youth, with a focus on diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility.
• Develop, implement, and evaluate programs for OCSH outreach and education to reach targeted audiences relevant to the mission of OCSH and as articulated in the OCSH Partnership Plan.
• Develop culturally inclusive and socially cognizant materials. Promote programs to ensure communication to broad and diverse audiences.
• Monitor educational offerings for quality control, accuracy, and branding. Manage, train, and provide lead work for volunteers/facilitators, students, or interns who assist with programs.
• Manage two South Coast lending libraries for educators.
• Assist with grant writing and reporting in support of STEM programming efforts.
• Ensure that Youth Safety Plans are in place for youth-involved programs.
• Travel/driving is required throughout Coos and Curry counties to fulfill the responsibilities of this position.

35% – Relationship building and partnership development

• Under direction of OCSH leadership, establish, manage, and maintain internal and external relationships to retain expertise and resources to promote and deliver STEM programs and services, including but not limited to OSU faculty, county and state agencies, government entities, volunteers, and community organizations.
• Create and maintain processes to facilitate active communication between program participants, volunteers, partners, and education audiences.
• Represent OCSH through participation and support at public outreach events and conferences.
• Lead and/or serve on internal and external committees.
• Attend regional and statewide meetings and events to help facilitate and support partners and participants.
• Use multiple methods of digital communication to collaborate both internally and externally as necessary. Create content for delivery in multiple forms including web sites, publications, video conferencing, social media and other online methods in partnership with the OSG/OCSH Team.
• Follow all regulations under Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), Institutional Review Board (IRB), and OSU Youth Safety Guidelines.

10% – Data collection and reporting

• Collect, compile, and analyze data; prepare reports and documents.

5% Volunteer recruitment and management

• Identify and recruit a diverse group of volunteers to support the needs of the STEM Hub and partners.
• Train volunteers to participate in STEM activities and maintain records of training and activities, including youth safety training.

5% – Professional development and other duties as assigned

• Attend appropriate in-service activities, seminars, workshops, and classes to maintain core competencies in areas related to position responsibilities and to develop new competencies.
• Support other projects and events as needed.
• Consistently demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, justice and accessibility.

What You Will Need

• Bachelor’s degree in science, education or other STEM-related field.
• 5 years of informal education and/or K-12 classroom experience.
• Experience creating and maintaining partnerships.
• Experience providing STEM educational programming, professional development, and/or training.
• Strong verbal and written skills, with ability to communicate successfully with a broad and diverse audience.
• Demonstrated ability to promote collaboration, teamwork, and partnerships, both internally and externally.
• Demonstrated project management, people, and relationship-building skills.
• Ability to organize, prioritize and manage workload with competing demands.
• General knowledge and ability to use computers, including proficiency with information technology, professional office software and collaborative work platforms.
• Ability to learn and adapt to using multiple forms of digital communication systems, including websites, email newsletters, social media, and other tools in a changing technological environment.

This position requires driving a university vehicle or a personal vehicle on behalf of the university; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a motor vehicle history check, possess, and maintain a current, valid driver’s license in their state of residence, be determined to be position qualified and self-report convictions as per University Policy 05-030.

• Combination of office work and facilitating programs in various locations on the south coast, including outdoors or in industry or education facilities
