Our Environmental Compliance group is seeking a full-time Environmental Specialist (engineer, scientist, or analyst) to support environmental compliance, construction oversight, site investigation, remediation, and stormwater-related projects throughout Connecticut.

This position reports directly to project sites statewide and offers a unique mix of both field and office responsibilities. Candidates can generally expect a workload of 60% field work and 40% office-based work, though this may vary depending on project demands, seasonal workloads, weather, and client needs.
The successful candidate will conduct environmental inspections, oversee soil management and remediation activities, collect environmental samples, support subsurface investigations, and prepare technical documentation. This role requires regular communication with project managers, team members, engineers, and contractors. You should be comfortable working both independently and as part of a collaborative team, with the flexibility to adapt to rapidly changing schedules, locations, and weather conditions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Construction & Compliance Oversight: Conduct on-site inspections of construction projects to ensure compliance with environmental permits, plans, specifications, and regulatory requirements.
  • Monitoring & Documentation: Monitor, document, and provide detailed, timely records for environmental compliance activities, including soil management, disposal, and remediation.
  • Field Sampling: Collect soil, groundwater, surface water, stormwater, and other environmental samples to support investigations, disposal characterization, or permit requirements.
  • Site Assessments: Assist with and perform Phase I, Phase II, and Phase III Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs) and subsurface investigations.
  • Stormwater Management: Perform stormwater system inspections, testing, and permit compliance monitoring and reporting.
  • Reporting & Data Summary: Prepare and maintain detailed field records, data summaries, and technical documentation. Document, report, and track environmental issues, deficiencies, or corrective actions.
  • Collaboration & Guidance: Attend project meetings and coordinate directly with project managers, engineers, and contractors. Provide technical support and guidance to construction teams regarding environmental compliance issues.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, environmental engineering, geoscience, or a related field.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of relevant experience in environmental consulting, construction oversight, environmental compliance, or a related field.
  • Proven experience working on active construction projects and interacting directly with field personnel or contractors.
  • Experience conducting Phase I, Phase II, and Phase III Environmental Site Assessments and subsurface investigations (including soil and groundwater sampling).
  • Strong working knowledge of current environmental regulations and permits.
  • Ability to interpret project engineering plans and specifications.
  • Strong technical writing, data management, and report preparation skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook), Basic GIS experience is a plus.
  • Excellent verbal communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently or within a team, while managing multiple assignments simultaneously.
  • Willingness to work flexible, early, or late schedules, and work outdoors during inclement weather.
  • 40-hour HAZWOPER certification,10-hour Construction OSHA certification, and NICET certification highly preferred
