What You Will Do:

As an Environmental Staff Engineer/Geologist, you will support environmental investigation and compliance projects with a primary focus on Georgia EPD’s Underground Storage Tank Management Program (USTMP), including site characterization, remediation, and regulatory coordination. The role also supports commercial property due diligence efforts through Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs) and requires the Application of environmental regulations through a combination of education and professional experience. Staying current with industry standards, emerging technologies, and best practices is essential to producing clear, defensible deliverables that meet both client and regulatory requirements.

This position combines fieldwork, technical analysis, and project coordination across underground storage tank investigations, commercial due diligence, natural resource assessments, and broader environmental evaluations.

Field Responsibilities

  • Perform subsurface investigations, including monitoring well installation, soil logging, and well construction oversight
  • Collect soil, groundwater, and soil gas samples for chemical analysis
  • Conduct field testing and sampling to support site characterization and remedial decision-making

Office & Project Management Responsibilities

  • Prepare proposals and manage project budgets, schedules, and client/vendor coordination
  • Analyze and interpret environmental data, including comparison to applicable state regulatory standards
  • Develop technical reports, data tables, figures, and support monthly prebills and invoicing

Leadership & Team Support

  • Mentor and train junior staff
  • Coordinate weekly field and project schedules
  • Communicate regularly with Senior Project Managers and Environmental Service Line leadership to support project delivery and team performance

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Environmental Engineering, or related field
  • Experience: Minimum of 3 years of relevant environmental experience, including consulting, regulatory, or industry roles
  • Certifications/Professional Licensure:
    • Georgia PG or PE License
    • HAZWOPER 40 Hour Certification, a plus
  • Key Competencies:
    • Strong communication skills (speaking, reading, and writing) using the English language

Working Conditions and Physical Demands:

This role involves hands-on work in outdoor environments, and with Company-provided Personal Protection Equipment (PPE), you’ll need to be comfortable with:

  • Working outdoors in varying weather conditions
  • Walking over rough, uneven terrain and standing (potentially up to 12 hours a day)
  • Routinely lifting and carrying 40-50lbs (field/laboratory samples and equipment)
  • Working outside of normal business hours and traveling (typically out-of-town and/or overnight) as project needs arise
