Northwest Park Camp Teachers
The Town of Windsor, CT is seeking Camp Teachers to work at Northwest Park’s Camp Foxfire. Through active, field-based explorations, and age-appropriate outdoor adventures, Camp Teachers will nurture each child’s curiosity and help them gain confidence and self-respect while building relationships with other children and the natural world.
With 473 acres of forests, marshes, fields, wetlands, gardens, and a farm to explore, Camp Teachers are expected to be with their campers outdoors, all-day, every day while camp is in session. Camp Foxfire has a total of six weeks of camp, all with individual themes. Camp Teachers work in pairs within their assigned age group, (ranging from PreK-8th grade), for the entirety of the summer and will have the assistance of one Junior Counselor per week of camp.
This is a full-time temporary summer position with a start date of Wednesday, June 17, 2026 and ending Monday, August 10, 2026. Applicants who can commit to all work dates receive hiring preference. The hourly rate is $19.60 per hour and the work schedule is 40 hours a week, Monday – Friday, 8:15am-4:30pm, with an unpaid 15-minute break each day.
First Aid and CPR training is provided for those needing certification/recertification. Onsite housing may be available upon request. This position requires a drug screen and criminal background check before hiring.
Responsibilities:
- Teach hands-on environmental activities focusing on science, nature, and agriculture (Curriculum is pre-written and reviewed during training)
- Prepare materials/equipment for all lessons, maintain a clean workspace, ensure campers safety
- Mentor Junior Counselors by assigning duties, delegating responsibilites, and providing support/feedback for their weekly lesson
- Manage camper behaviors through mediating social and emotional conflicts, promoting a supportive learning environment for all
- Collaborate with staff, engage with campers, and adapt to various weather conditions
- Display a high level of commitment and enthusiasm
- Engage in ongoing professional development through performance feedback, mentoring, and skill-building opportunities
Qualifications:
- Minimum one year of college studies in an environmental field or equivalent experience working with children between grades K-8.
- Passion for nature exploration and basic knowledge of the outdoors
- Preferred experience in camp activities like gardening, hikes, or facilitating group games
- Ability to work outdoors, stay active, and maintain emotional engagement with campers
- Demonstrate commitment, reliability, punctuality, and responsibility
- Physical stamina for outdoor work in all weather conditions and ability to be active throughout day-to-day responsibilities; emotional resilience and social skills to connect with campers and staff
