Position Summary:

Vice President of Environment, Health, and Safety (EHS) leads and manage EHS programs across all levels, from corporate operations to branch locations. This executive will oversee vehicle safety and worker’s compensation programs while ensuring compliance with all environmental, health, and safety regulations. The VP of EHS will collaborate with Compliance, Operations, Legal, and Human Resources to foster a culture of safety, sustainability, and operational excellence.

Essential Functions and Job Responsibilities:

Strategic Leadership

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive EHS strategy aligned with AdaptHealth’s operational goals.
  • Establish metrics and centralized tracking systems for vehicle safety and worker’s compensation across all branches and operational units.
  • Drive a safety-first culture, ensuring continuous improvement and accountability throughout the organization.

Vehicle Safety

  • Oversee a centralized vehicle safety program, including driver safety training, compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations, and incident reporting and investigation.
  • Implement technology-driven solutions to monitor and enhance fleet safety performance.
  • Analyze trends and develop proactive measures to reduce vehicle-related incidents.

Worker’s Compensation Management

  • Lead the organization’s worker’s compensation program, including claims management, return-to-work initiatives, and injury prevention strategies.
  • Collaborate with Human Resources and insurance carriers to ensure cost-effective and efficient claims processing.
  • Identify and mitigate risks to reduce claims and associated costs.

Branch-Level EHS Oversight

  • Provide guidance and support to branch-level leaders in implementing EHS policies and practices.
  • Conduct regular audits and inspections to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal EHS regulations, including OSHA and EPA requirements.
  • Coordinate with branch teams to address safety gaps, resolve incidents, and maintain a safe working environment.

Collaboration and Compliance

  • Work closely with Compliance, Operations, Legal, and Human Resources to ensure EHS alignment with organizational policies and legal requirements.
  • Serve as the primary liaison with regulatory agencies, representing the organization during inspections, audits, and compliance reviews.
  • Develop and deliver training programs for employees on EHS best practices, regulatory updates, and safety protocols.

Risk Management and Reporting

  • Identify, assess, and mitigate EHS risks to the organization.
  • Analyze incident data, identify trends, and recommend corrective actions to prevent future occurrences.
  • Prepare and present regular reports on EHS performance metrics to executive leadership.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and function within the guidelines of HIPAA.
  • Complete assigned compliance training and other educational programs as required.
  • Maintain compliance with AdaptHealth’s Compliance Program
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Management/Supervision:

  • Responsible for selection and hiring of qualified staff, ensuring an effective on-boarding, and providing comprehensive training and regular feedback.
  • Accomplishes staff results by communicating job expectations; planning, monitoring, and appraising job results; coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees; developing, coordinating, and enforcing systems, policies, procedures, and productivity standards.
  • Establishes annual goals and objectives for the department based on the organization’s strategic goals.
  • Responsible for achieving organizational performance and retention goals, including timely completion of performance evaluations.

Competency, Skills, and Abilities:

  • In-depth knowledge of EHS regulations, including OSHA, EPA, DOT, and worker’s compensation laws.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and develop actionable insights.

  • Experience in developing and implementing EHS training programs at all organizational levels.
  • Proficiency in EHS management systems and technology platforms for centralized tracking and reporting.
  • Demonstrated leadership presence and maturity.
  • Impeccable judgment and ability to make sound decisions in a fast-paced, dynamic setting.
  • Executive-level presentation skills and ability to handle high-level client interactions.
  • Strong interpersonal, relationship-building, and negotiating skills.
  • High level of proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)

Requirements

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental health, occupational safety, public health, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
  • 8+ years of progressive leadership experience in EHS, preferably in healthcare, logistics, or a related industry.
  • Proven track record of managing vehicle safety programs and worker’s compensation initiatives.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

  • Must be able to bend, stoop, stretch, stand, and sit for extended periods.
  • Ability to perform repetitive motions of wrists, hands, and/or fingers due to extensive computer use.
  • Work environment may be stressful at times, as overall office activities and work levels fluctuate.
  • Subject to long periods of sitting and exposure to computer screen.
  • May be exposed to angry or irate customers, patients, or referral sources.
  • Ability to utilize a personal computer and other office equipment.
  • Must be able to lift 30 pounds as needed.
  • Excellent ability to communicate both verbally and in writing.
