DJM Ecological Servicesis looking for2-4 seasonal employees to help conduct timber inventory across federal lands in theMississippi River Floodplains.This summer temp position will show preference towards 2nd and 3rd year forestry students. This is a full-time travel position (on the road for the duration) with an emphasis on data accuracy and field production. Once hired,duties will include conducting variable radius timber inventory plots using standard timber cruising protocols. Plots will be scattered across various sites in the Mississippi river from Iowa down to Missouri. Field work will require collecting GPS points, species, DBH, height, canopy class,canopy cover percentages,vegetation information,micro/nested plots for regeneration,and collecting tree cores for site tree data.The use of a 10 BAF Cruz-all will determine tally trees. Borderline trees will require limiting distances to be taken to determine tally trees. All data will be recorded electronically and submitted to the field supervisor daily for quality assurance. All duties will be discussed and demonstrated while on the job training is conducted. DJM will conduct on the job training needed to complete work successfully and allow you to meet daily field production rates. Employees who are successful in this position will receive first consideration for permanent full-time positions upon graduation or need of full-time employment and opportunities to work with DJM on other forestry and environmental projects in the future. All expenses related to this position will be covered by DJM. This will include lodging, transportation, all necessary measurement equipment, and daily food stipends. This position is expected to have +/-50 hours per week with overtime paid by DJM.

APPLICANT REQUIREMENTS:

Ideal applicants will be a 2nd or 3rd year forestry student or in a related field. Have basic tree and plant I.D. skills. Ability to travel for the duration of the project with lodging and transportation provided by DJM. Work in a multitude of environments including rough terrain and extreme temperatures. Exposure to plants such as Poison Ivy and Nettle will be frequent. Hiking for long periods of time may be required. Pre-employment fit testing is utilized to verify physical fitness and drug free status.

WAGES AND COMPENSATION:

DJM pays all travel expenses including lodging and food, provides transportation for work requiring travel, and all equipment/supplies required to perform duties is assigned. Typical hours are 50+/-per week during the summer (May-Oct) with time and a half overtime pay after 40 hours. DJM will provide holiday pay for major holidays that occur during the duration of this position.
