We have an international reputation for contributions in the many fields of computing, both in foundations and applications. The Department currently consists of 51 faculty members, approximately 326 graduate students, 20 post-doctoral fellows and research associates, 1,352 undergraduate students and 12 administrative staff. Our research partners come from a wide variety of industries and other academic disciplines.Position Summary, professor in the Department of Computing Science and Fellow at the Alberta Machine Intelligence Institute ( ), has an immediate opening for a postdoctoral fellow to work on the research project “Machine Malfunction Prediction and Machine Adaptation using Machine Learning”. This project investigates effective means to automatically predict machine failures and strategies to adapt a malfunctioning machine to continue its mission before maintenance can be performed. The project also relates to machine adaptation to environment dynamics and human collaborators. The research applies Machine learning and Data Mining and focuses on Reinforcement Learning techniques to achieve these goals. Amii is one of three centers of excellence in the , and is a world-renowned leader in artificial intelligence research, advancing the field of AI through ground-breaking discoveries and transformative technologies.Duties
- Problem-solving research challenges and model development under the general direction of the principal researcher
- Assistance with the supervision of graduate students involved in the project
- Supervision of undergraduate students involved in the project
- Overseeing the required periodic reports to industrial partners and funders
- Preparing complete documentation of research activities for reference purposes, including code generated by project team members
- Analyzing, interpreting, and documenting research findings for review and publication purposes
- Review Literature: Read and analyze research papers to stay updated on state-of-the-art methods, identify gaps and opportunities in the field
Minimum Qualifications
- PhD degree in computer science or related field
- Trained in machine learning, in areas such as semi-supervised learning, transfer learning, deep models, and GFlowNets
- Trained in reinforcement learning
- Trained in robotics
Preferred Qualifications
- Strong programming skills in at least one of the following: Java, C/C++, and/or Python
- Experience with software development and system implementation
