Department Summary
The mission of the Institute for Data Science is to empower the University of Mississippi research community, staff, and leadership to incorporate data analytics, AI & ML into their corresponding disciplines. Role Summary
Provide routine analysis of data using basic statistical techniques to discover trends/patterns that can be leveraged to meet business needs.
Key responsibilities of the role include performing analyses and implementing data science pipelines for numerous biomedical research projects. This individual shall be responsible for the biomedical analyses across the university for the Office of Research and Economic Development writing program that would heavily utilize the “All of Us” data source.
The individual should possess knowledge of advanced Python,and statistical analysis methodologies. Master’s or PhD. level education is preferred.
Examples of Work Performed
- Obtaining data from numerous research repositories
- Performing statistical data analyses
- Implementing data science and AI pipelines in Python
- Compiling graphics and visuals
- Contributing to manuscript preparation
- Presenting research findings to research community
Essential Functions
These essential functions include, but are not limited to, the following. Additional essential functions may be identified and included by the hiring department.
1. Collects and prepares basic to moderately complex data sets to be utilized in various assessment scenarios.
2. Analyzes and models data to identify trends, test hypotheses, formulate recommendations, and answer questions.
3. Composes and assembles reports based on the analysis of data to clearly articulate results and findings.
Minimum Education/Experience
Education: Bachelor’s Degree
Experience: (3) Three Years Experience
Preferred Qualifications
Preferred qualifications: Python advanced knowledge, knowledge in databases and data structures, knowledge of statistical methodologies, knowledge of visualizations, some knowledge of biostatistics.
Preferred education: Master’s or PhD
