Title: FIRE Foundry Fuels Program Coordinator

FLSA Status: Full-Time, Exempt from Wage and Hour Laws

Directly Supervises: FIRE Foundry Crew Supervisor

Role with Agency: Supervisory

SUMMARY

The FIRE Foundry Fuels Program Coordinator oversees the planning and implementation of CCNB’s FIRE Foundry program in Marin County. The FIRE Foundry Program is led by Marin County Fire Department in partnership with CCNB, Marin Wildfire Prevention Authority, U.C. Berkeley, Marin Professional Firefighters, and the College of Marin to establish an emerging science and technology-savvy, community-oriented wildfire prevention workforce by providing job training and skills development for underserved, underrepresented, and underfunded youth in Marin County. The FIRE Foundry Fuels Program Coordinator will take a leadership role, including managing the FIRE Foundry Supervisor and 12-24 recruits, overseeing the successful execution of field projects and program administrative functions, as well as provide support for professional, educational, and personal development and success of all recruits. The Fuels Program Coordinator may also assist the Natural Resources Manager with special projects as assigned.

Unless otherwise agreed upon, typical hours will be Monday and Wednesday 1:30-6:30, and Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday 7am-5:30pm.

RESPONSIBILITIES (include, but not limited to):

  • Oversee operations and ensure the success of the FIRE Foundry Fuels Program. Act as a central hub to facilitate program communication between recruits, staff, and partners.
  • Onboard FIRE Foundry Fuels Program recruits.
  • Coordinate field projects by communicating with site sponsors, walking the site if necessary, gathering and assessing appropriate equipment and tools.
  • Ensure the successful execution of FIRE Foundry field projects to meet the requirements of land management agencies. Regularly visit project sites to support crew performance, provide quality control, monitor safety requirements, and address issues.
  • Directly supervise FIRE Foundry Fuels Supervisor, and lead supervisor meetings with MCFD Captain and CCNB supervisor.
  • Regularly communicate with Marin County Fire Department by attending meetings and providing reports.
  • Complete all administrative functions related to the FIRE Foundry program, including time and attendance tracking and approvals, worker’s comp forms, output logs, case records in Salesforce, organization, and maintenance of project photos, etc.
  • Coordinate with Crew Supervisor, Manager, and the People & Culture department to address participant performance issues proactively, meet with recruits to discuss performance, and ensure proper documentation of all disciplinary actions and proactively address safety concerns.
  • Track supplies (PPE, uniforms, tools, etc.) and relay needs to Marin County Fire Department.
  • Collaborate with the Operations Coordinator and Shop Supervisor to maintain tools and equipment. Assess and respond to needs for fleet, facilities, procedures, and security.
  • Collaborate with the Marin Natural Resources Manager to arrange for short- and long-term crew coverage in the case of FIRE Foundry Crew Supervisor absences. Act as back-up supervisor when needed.
  • Develop and maintain positive working relationships with all program stakeholders and leverage these relationships to further the goals of both the FIRE Foundry program, Natural Resources special projects, and the mission of CCNB.
  • Responsible for following facility lock up procedures at the end of each workday.
  • Ensures all CCNB policies and procedures are followed.
  • Present the FIRE Foundry program to current CCNB corpsmembers, sharing information about the FIRE Foundry program and how to apply.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, natural resources, ecology, sustainability, public policy, education, or a related field.
  • Clean driving record and possession of a CA Class C driver’s license.
  • Two or more years of experience in a supervisory position, preferably within the wildfire/forest management industry, an environmental organization, or a nonprofit.
  • Two or more years of experience and technical skills in fire fuel reduction or similar natural resources management field projects.
  • Demonstrated experience supervising or mentoring and motivating young adults from varied social, economic, and educational backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated ability to resolve conflicts and mediate disputes.
  • Excellent organizational and administrative skills. Experience with Microsoft Office suite, especially Word and Excel. Prior experience using Salesforce and/or Paycom a plus.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, and ability to build collaborative working relationships with program stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of safety procedures and OSHA regulations related to natural resources management, landscaping, and working in wilderness locations.
  • Current First Aid/CPR certification (or ability to obtain certification within two months of hire, provided through CCNB).
  • Ability to do strenuous work in adverse weather conditions when called upon to do so.
  • Experience in the operation of trucks, trailers, and power tools (chainsaw, hedge trimmer, brush cutter) desired.
  • Training and certifications including S-212 Wildland Fire Chainsaws, Firefighter 1 or Firefighter 2 courses, wilderness medicine or similar are desirable.

The Fuels Program Coordinator will sometimes work outdoors around equipment and machinery, walking on uneven ground and steep hillsides, with exposure to excessive noise, fumes and extremes in temperature. They may be expected to lift and move objects weighing up to 75 lbs, and/or carry objects at least ½ mile. This position sometimes uses special visual and auditory protective equipment. While performing the duties of this position, the Fuels Program Coordinator is required to walk and stand; sit and bend; squat and climb; kneel and twist; to talk and hear. The Fuels Program Coordinator uses hands to operate objects, tools, or controls; and reaches with hands and arms. The Fuels Program Coordinator uses hands to perform simple and power grasping, and fine manipulation; to push and pull.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
The FIRE Foundry Fuels Program Coordinator position is a full-time, exempt position which is eligible for a full benefits package (Medical, Dental, Vision, Chiropractic, 403 (B) retirement, paid time off, holiday pay, and professional development funds). The starting salary range for this position is $70,000-$74,000.
