GENERAL PURPOSE OF JOB:

Under the general supervision of the Education Manager, the Education Specialist is responsible for monitoring Family Child Care Home Education Network (“FCCHEN”) to ensure compliance with California Department of Social Services, Early Education and Support Division, and Licensing regulations. The Education Specialist will observe and assess children using the Desired Result Developmental Profile (“DRDP”) and conduct Family Child Care Environment Rating Scale assessments to create program activities that address the developmental needs of children by providing appropriate learning experiences and sharing with the providers.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Train providers in child development and creation of an educationally stimulating environment, individually and in workshops.
  • Monitor providers and conduct regular quality review visits.
  • Assist providers to resolve problems, including issues with licensing analysts, schools, children, and parents.
  • Develop and maintain accurate child and provider records as required by the contract.
  • Complete DRDP and observations for each child.
  • Create and maintain files and database – compliant with program expectations.
  • Complete an Environmental Rating Scale for providers.
  • Develop action plans for providers to maintain ongoing quality.
  • Ensure age-appropriate curricula activities are being implemented in the areas of cognitive, physical, social emotional growth of all children.
  • Maintain ongoing communication with parents to obtain information to better serve families and maintain program quality – including but not limited to, parent conferences, the distribution of programmatic materials and event announcements.
  • Conduct periodic on-site health and safety monitoring visits to each Family Child Care Home; includes visiting at opening and closing hours to ensure compliance with sign in/out procedures and health and safety regulations.
  • Prepare reports to enhance the FCCHEN program and to determine the program’s effectiveness.
  • Conduct trainings/workshops for providers and parents including informing providers and parents about children’s growth and development and best practices.
  • Monitor the nutritional programs being administered at all Family Child Care Homes to ensure the program is in compliance with the State of California Food and Nutrition Program.
  • Submit monthly status reports of all activities conducted during the month and monitoring reports, which include deficiencies found and action taken.
  • Enroll Family Child Care providers in the program.
  • Assist potential providers to become licensed.
  • Travel to Family Child Care Homes in the outlying areas as assigned.
  • Attend meetings, conferences and workshops as assigned.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Other Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Actively participate with ideas and feedback during planning sessions geared toward the review and development of program plans.
  • Purchase preapproved program supplies and materials as needed abiding by all Think Together set policies and procedures.
  • Encourage parents to attend and participate in workshops, meetings, and advisory committees.
  • Actively link providers, parents/families and support them in their interaction with outside services as provided by ELP leadership staff.
  • Facilitate workshops on early literacy strategies for providers and parents as needed.
  • Maintain accurate/detailed records, facilitate meetings, and documentation.
  • Act as a role model for the communities/sites assigned, fostering professionalism and leadership qualities while always upholding Think Together’s mission and values in positive regard.
  • Maintain compliance with Think Together policies and procedures.
  • Participate in Think Together trainings and meetings as requested; May be required to facilitate workshops.
  • Implements other human resource policies and procedures.
  • Attends regularly scheduled meetings and other meetings and trainings as requested.
  • Must be willing to work some evenings and weekends.
  • Must be willing to travel to off-site meetings and events.
  • Must be willing to travel for conferences and trainings.

EDUCATION and / or EXPERIENCE:

  • 24 units ECE/CD, including core courses** plus16 GE units* plus 6 specialization units plus 2 adult supervision units- Master Teacher Child Development Permit preferred.
  • At least 3 years working with children ages 0-5 in classroom or educational setting.
  • Experience in providing trainings/workshops in child development.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ability to work well with people and demonstrate a sensitivity to the needs of children and families.
  • Computer skills and knowledge of Windows, Excel, and Word at an intermediate or advanced level.
  • Ability to communicate in written and oral English correctly and effectively.
  • A California Driver’s License, daily use of an automobile, and automobile liability insurance • Must pass background check.
  • TB test clearance to be renewed every two years.
  • Current certification in Pediatric CPR/First Aid
  • Comply with immunization, background check standards and other required screenings as mandated by Human Resources
  • Bi literate in Spanish is required.

Salary: $23.00/hr
