Clemson University’s Camp Bob Cooper is seeking a Recreation Coordinator to join our team overseeing summer camps, outdoor education and rentals for our Winter, Spring & Summer seasons.
We are seeking applicants who are new to camping as a profession, and looking to learn from experienced camp professionals. The right applicant will have an opportunity to advance into a non-seasonal role.
Camp Bob Cooper is located in the Lowcountry of SC on a 110 acre peninsula on Lake Marion (SC’s largest lake). Our location provides a range of ecosystems being in a lake setting and an hour from the coast in Charleston.
Recreation Coordinators will assist with and provide support for adventure-based programming that includes high adventure courses, climbing wall, and traditional camp activities, as well as, assisting with summer camp and rental groups. Coordinators will organize and manage all program areas including facility and logistical needs, assists in overseeing and hiring all camp staff including program instructor. Coordinators will also help manage staff that teach outdoor ed and assist in programming when needed.
Principle Duties:
- Help manage a staff of educators/instructors
- Be a leader in the camping system during the Summer
- Build comradery and positive work environment for staff
- Lead staff and groups in daily program activities (wake-up, flagpole, meals, canteen, and campfire).
- Be actively involved in all program activities, leading and participating in evening recreational and instructional times as scheduled.
- Assist with routine clean up and set up of program areas.
- Manage rental groups when needed.
- Manage groups and staff utilizing adventure activities.
- Provide facilitation and guidance on public and private rental groups
- Provide great customer service
- Work hard & Play hard.
Qualifications:
- Degree in Parks & Recreation, Outdoor Adventure, Social Sciences, or related field preferred ORExperience in Environmental Ed Programs and or Camping Programs
- Must have 1 season of managerial experience in outdoor ed, summer camping or related field.
- Must have the patience, understanding, flexibility, and a lot of energy.
- Must demonstrate teaching skills and the ability to implement creative “hands on” teaching methods.
- Must be willing to sacrifice, adapt and work hard as part of a team pursuing an objective.
- Must be physically able to perform the tasks required to teach outdoors.
- Must be willing to work hard and committed to the team.
Pay Scale:
Pay of $600/week plus housing, meals, and a sickness/accidental insurance plan.
