We are a multidisciplinary team across analytical, purification, high-throughput synthesis and automation that collaborates with project teams to progress the discovery and development of new medicines from hit identification through early development (non-GxP). Core to our mission is the development of digital workflows and custom code that supports our experimental work.We are seeking a highly motivated individual to join our team working with and supporting GSK Chemistry globally.The successful applicant will join the Molecular Modality Capabilities leadership team, managing their own group with the core mission of connecting our Data & Predictive Science and Tech organisations to the laboratory. This is an opportunity to apply your personal expertise to advance efforts from initial drug design right through the API development process. Alongside this you and your team will deliver data workflows, software solutions, and computational automation that enable ambitious experiments.The position requires an individual with strong analytical, technical, reporting, and personal skills, experience of team or matrix leadership and a commitment to further personal development in both technical and leadership areas.In this role you will partake in and oversee:
- Support for and development of existing analytical and high-throughput chemistry software tools.
- E.g. Global Analytical Data Repository, Centralized Achiral Purification Systems
- Development of new digital workflows that enable automation of complex laboratory processes.
- Interfacing with Data, Informatics and Tech organisations to build aligned processes with long term support.
- Develop technical documentation including requirements documentation, and architecture documentation.
- Liaise with external vendors as appropriate for software/automation evaluations and present recommendations to senior leadership.
- Lead, mentor, and develop a high performing informatics team, fostering a collaborative and innovative environment.
We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals:
- BSc in a relevant scientific or computational discipline with significant pharmaceutical industry experience and training, or MSc/PhD with demonstrable and practical industrial experience in a professional setting
- Experience of generating or utilising experimental synthetic and medicinal chemistry data, interacting with experiment capture systems and accelerating research through automation.
- Strong experience in programming and software development; ideally Python, C#, VB .NET or Java.
- Experience using modern collaborative version control platforms; ideally GitHub.
- Experience using integrated development environments (IDEs) and source code editors; ideally Visual Studio and Visual Studio Code.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Preferred qualifications:
- Knowledge and understanding of modern technologies, infrastructures, and cloud architectures; ideally Azure and Google cloud platforms, and big data.
- Experience with modern query languages and databases (SQL / NoSQL); ideally Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, and PostgreSQL.
- Experience with developing and incorporating APIs; ideally REST and SOAP.
- Experience with laboratory automation, development of custom automation workflows and coding (Python).
- Basic knowledge and understanding of modern AI/ML concepts.
- Experience with data analytics platforms; ideally Spotfire.
