Job Title: Member Manager, Cultural Resources Diversity Internship Program (CRDIP)

Location: ACE currently has offices in Sacramento, CA; Ridgecrest, CA; Hurricane, UT; Flagstaff, AZ; and Asheville, NC. This position can also work remotely in the continental US. 

Department/Division: EPIC (National Park Service)

Status: Regular, Full-Time, Salaried (Exempt)

Schedule/Hours: Full-time, 40 hours/week (Monday – Friday, flexible hours but expected to be on duty during ACE Core Business Hours of 12:00 pm – 5:00 pm Eastern time to accommodate business needs in all US time zones), with some adjustment expected to accommodate specific projects and program needs. Some evening and weekend hours may be occasionally required.

Reports To: Signature Programs Manager, EPIC NPS Division

Position Summary:

The ACE EPIC National Park Service (NPS) Division hosts over 300 members in individual placement projects each year across the country in National Parks, Monuments, Sites, Recreational Areas, Trails, Rivers, Battlefields, and Heritage Areas. Projects supported are diverse and range from invasive species control, riparian and wetland restoration, threatened and endangered species research and management, records reconciliation, realty, vertebrate and invertebrate research and management, ecology, landscape level planning, recreation management, and outreach and visitor services. Our ACE EPIC NPS team recruits, places, and supports young adults and recent graduates with individual placement service opportunities to work on these NPS projects.

The primary role of the ACE EPIC Cultural Resources Diversity Internship Program (CRDIP) Member Manager is ensuring team, member, and partner needs are met through outreach, recruitment, onboarding and ongoing member support for all CRDIP positions. The CRDIP Member Manager will collaborate across the Signature Program Team, other EPIC NPS Division recruitment staff, and with the Signature Programs Manager in the performance of this role while embodying ACE Core Values.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

Recruitment and Outreach:

  • Develop position announcements for individual placements
  • Post and advertise project opportunities and positions
  • Conduct applicant screening and interviewing in coordination with NPS staff
  •  Follow up with candidates about application status and materials
  • Compile and prepare applicant information and collaborate with project partners on applicant placement
  • Research and formulate recruitment strategies including finding new recruitment sites, and building relationships with academic institutions, agencies, tribes, and local organizations while recruiting, interviewing and reviewing prospective candidates
  • Assist with ensuring timely and accurate onboarding and data entry

Member Support:

  • Oversee all aspects of member management for a portion of ACE members (recruitment, placement, onboarding, support, and exiting); Responsible for ensuring members are provided a positive and engaging experience, as well as performing to ACE standards.
  •  Serve as a main point of contact for member inquiries on many aspects of the member’s position including: travel, training, vehicles, uniforms, safety, PPE, mentorship, etc. 
  • Carry out biweekly timesheet review and approval, webinar training facilitation, on-call incident response, processing of reimbursement requests, conducting feedback and growth discussions (formalized at entry, midterm and exit), contribute to ACE and NPS social media recognizing members’ accomplishments, and any additional relevant member engagement or support needs that may arise during a member’s term.
  • Coordinate the order and shipping of member uniforms for individual placement projects.
  • Assist with AmeriCorps program enrollments, exits, and audits.

Partner Support:

  • Directly engage and support agency partners throughout each member’s term; this can include:
  • Confirming logistical information, establishing expectations of project duties and schedule, and ongoing communication
  • Monitoring member and partner feedback and respond appropriately, including facilitating disciplinary action with support from the National Director as required.
  • Understand and utilize ACE data management systems and processes.
  • Contribute to the collection and assembling of project accomplishments and statistics for partnership reporting needs.
  • Adhere to ACE safety policies and procedures.
  • Participate in ACE staff trainings and events as well as NPS agency trainings and events.
  • Pending safe travel conditions, conduct park visits, attend offsite events, and professional development conferences or trainings as funds and timing allow.
  •  Support ACE and Divisional efforts to expand the diversity of participants in our programming and make our programs more accessible to young people of all backgrounds.
  • Foster a culture and environment that positions ACE for success and ensures that ACE is the program of choice for partners, members, and staff.
  • Responsibilities and tasks outlined are not exhaustive and may change as determined by ACE.

Required Experience and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in anthropological, historical, archeological, museology, or other cultural resource management related fields, and/or an equivalent combination of relevant field experience which could include cultural or human resources, management, or customer service. 
  • One year of related experience in outreach, recruitment, onboarding and/or in providing support to a conservation, non-profit, or similar program or project.  
  • Strong computer management skills including experience or willingness to learn applicant tracking software and personnel databases, iOS, MS Office, Google Suite, and webinar platforms such as Zoom, Slack, or equivalents.
  • Highly organized, with the ability to effectively multitask and maintain coordination of time-sensitive compliance needs for members serving nationwide, utilizing proprietary database tools.
  • Ability to work both independently and as a contributing member of a team
  • Excellent time management skills.
  • Ability to effectively work with a diverse range of people.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, must have a strong comfort level speaking on the phone and in video meetings.
  • Ability to independently manage one’s workload.
  • Commitment to ACE’s mission of public service through youth development & volunteerism.
  • A deep and continuing interest in the welfare and professional development of ACE participants.
  • Must be flexible and eager to engage with the highly mobile and predominantly remote teams that make up ACE and sustain good communication with team members via remote applications.

  • Knowledge and or understanding of National Service Programs like AmeriCorps is preferred, but not required.
  • Knowledge and or understanding of the National Park Service or federal land management agencies is preferred, but not required.

  • Valid driver’s license and an insurable driving record (for site visits/travel)

Physical Demands, Work Environment and Working Conditions:

  • Physical Demands: Requires frequent sitting, standing, walking, using hands to handle or feel, reaching with hands and arms, talks and hears. Manual dexterity required for use of computer keyboard/mouse and other office equipment. Occasionally required to stoop, kneel, climb stairs, and/or crouch (all physical demands are required with or without reasonable accommodations).
  • Vision Requirements: Requires close, distance, peripheral and depth perception vision as well as the ability to focus.
  • Weight Lifted or Force Exerted: Frequently moves up to 10 lbs., occasionally moves up to 25 pounds.
  • Environmental: Mainly indoor, office environment conditions; indoor air quality is good and temperature is controlled.
  • Noise Environment: Moderate noise such as in a business office with equipment and light traffic.
  • Travel: This position may require domestic travel as needed (to visit project sites/recruitment events)

Compensation: Annualized salary $45,000 (assuming 40 hours week/52 weeks a year)

Medical/Health Benefits: ACE offers competitive medical and ancillary plans (health, mental health, dental, vision and other supplemental benefits). ACE Staff members are also eligible to participate in ACE’s 403b retirement plan with a 2% employer contribution.

Holidays, Vacation, and Sick Time: As an ACE staff member, you will be eligible to accrue up to 80 hours of paid vacation time annually during your first two years of continuous employment, then it increases to 120 hours annually. ACE observes 13 paid annual holidays (floating holiday flexibility). ACE provides 10 days (or 80 hours) of paid sick time annually.
