The International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) is dedicated to reducing poverty and hunger through rice science; improving the health and welfare of rice farmers and consumers; and protecting the rice-growing environment for future generations. IRRI is an independent, nonprofit, research and educational institute, founded in 1960 by the Ford and Rockefeller foundations with support from the Philippine government. The institute, headquartered in Los Baños, Philippines, has offices in 17 rice-growing countries in Asia and Africa, and over 1,000 staff.
Working with in-country partners, IRRI develops advanced rice varieties that yield more grain and better withstand pests and disease as well as flooding, drought, and other harmful effects of climate change.
Under the close supervision of the Head – Food and Housing Services, provide lifeguarding and emergency services at the IMH swimming pool by administering appropriate lifeguarding procedures and techniques. Ensure that the swimming pool area is clean and that equipment is well maintained.
This position will be based at the IRRI Headquarters, Los Baños, Philippines and may only be filled by permanent citizens of the Philippines.
Responsibilities:
- Provide lifeguard/lifesaving service at IRRI Staff Housing swimming pool
- Responsible for the swimming pool maintenance
- Support a positive and enjoyable experience for all pool users by maintaining a clean, safe and welcoming environment
- Monitor pool activities and render attention to pool users and their safety while maintaining positive guest relations
- Coordinate with the unit head to ensure that all pool-related activities are informed, and that facilities are well-maintained and meet safety standards.
- Liaise with service providers (PPS/SSS/ENTOM) to monitor progress of work orders requests.
- Ensure that the needed repairs are reported immediately
- Lifeguarding and Safety:
- Assure adherence to physical, chemical, and environmental hazards in the pool
Maintenance and Cleanliness:
- Water maintenance, routine cleaning and servicing
- Vacuuming the swimming pool and scrub algae
- Regularly apply algaecides and chlorine following standards procedures
- Maintain correct and ideal water chemistry
- Regularly drain and clean pool and replace water in the children’s pool
Facility Management:
- Regularly clean the pool surroundings including bathhouses, pavilion, and other recreational facilities in the area
- Ensure that all pool equipment, servicing tools, rescue equipment, pool signage, and pavilion furnishing and barbeque facilities are in good working condition and meet safety regulations and standards
- Ensure availability of stocks (chlorine, cleaning materials and recreational supplies) through proper housekeeping and inventory
Qualifications:
- High school degree with minimum 3 years relevant experience in life guarding/lifesaving
Skills Required;
Mandatory:
- Has a current certification on BLS, CPR and Water Safety and Rescue
- Has good oral communication skills
