BHP’s CAD$14 billion (US$10.5 billion) investment in the Jansen project will deliver a potash mine in Saskatchewan designed to maximize sustainability. As the largest investment in Saskatchewan’s history, Jansen is expected to generate approximately 5,500 workforce opportunities during construction and 900 long-term roles.Jansen’s construction will take place over several years with first production planned for late 2026. Once fully ramped up, Jansen is expected to have an initial production capacity of approximately 8.5 million tonnes per annum (Mtpa), with the potential to produce 16 to 17 Mtpa in future stages. To find out more about the Jansen project,PurposeThe Mining Systems Technology Manager provides leadership to a team, or teams focused on the production, development, and management of mining systems for an underground operation in line with Operational and Technology requirements. They translate strategy into action plans for the department to enable operational success.About the RoleIn this role, you will:

  • Develop Technology strategy, roadmaps and architectural models in alignment with the current and future needs of the business.
  • Verify whether systems conform to technical requirements, validate stakeholder expectations, and transition systems to production and operation.
  • Develop safety requirements specifications, define and implements safety lifecycle management strategies and advise on systems safety issues.
  • Monitor system performance and configuration management, resolve issues and implement required updates to improve the overall performance, integrity and integration of BHP systems across the lifecycle.
  • Develop a system integration strategy/plan, assemble and integrate systems accordingly.
  • Develop and select effective design solutions, work with relevant vendors/stakeholders to procure products, and provide design expertise to inform selection.
  • Define and manage functional and non-functional requirements that consider business expectations for the system and operational concepts.
  • Install, conduct verification/functional testing and regular post-installation calibration of automated equipment to optimize the safety and performance of automated operations across BHP.
  • Engage the capabilities of the entire organization.

About You

  • Tertiary qualifications in Information Technology, Engineering, Trades or similar fields.
  • Experience in large, complex, organizations in the mining industry or similar heavy industries in technology (or other) roles with accountabilities for operational technologies used for mining (or similar) operations.
  • Experience with underground communications, technology infrastructure & mining systems.
  • Experience with technology service management frameworks.
  • Experience leading teams of teams and creating an environment of trust and collaboration.
  • Understanding of agile & waterfall project management methodologies.
  • Experience leading the development of technical capabilities.
  • Strong experience with vendor and contract management practices & processes.
  • Experience in customer engagement and influence of senior operational leaders.
  • Development of technical capability frameworks.
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) across relevant stakeholders to provide quick and accurate responses to all queries and relevant support as required.
  • Ability to build a high performing team.

Work LocationDowntown, Saskatoon office. 40 hours per week. Hybrid working (flexible, shared workstations and a combination of office and work from home) is standard for BHP.
