Together we are more than 5,000 dedicated faculty, librarians and staff supporting the University of Victoria’s diverse academic programs, world-class research and commitment to civic engagement.This position may be required to work evenings and weekends.The salary range for this position is:Recruitment range: $65,860- $72,607 starting salary determined by the PEA Collective Agreement.Performance range: starting salary to max of $85,633 is available through annual performance increases.Job SummaryThe Coordinator, Student Development, is responsible for the creation, coordination and implementation of a diverse range of programs, projects and activities designed to assist residents and student staff in their academic, personal and interpersonal growth.. Reporting to the Manager, Education and Training, the Coordinator, Student Development will develop co-curricular programming that supports the strategic goals of the Residence Services unit within the Department of Student Services. The position is actively involved in providing opportunities for involvement, fostering academic success, and facilitating meaningful transformative experiences for students living and working in residence. This is accomplished through the provision of large scale programming and engagement initiatives, the development of a programming model grounded in relevant theory (i.e.: student development and learning theories), and coordinating all aspects of the Residence Resource HUB. The Residence Resource HUB is a center for programming activities located within residence and includes flexible co-curricular spaces and the Program Resource Centre (PRC). The HUB is used by Residence Life and Education professional and paraprofessional staff as well as campus and community partners.The Coordinator, Student Development is expected to develop and maintain lasting partnerships with campus and community stakeholders, as well as to support professional and paraprofessional staff related programming. The Coordinator directly supervises four to six Program Resource Centre Advisors (PRCAs) and is also responsible for providing guidance and support to Senior Community Leaders (SCLs) as well as indirectly to Residence Education Community Leaders (RECLs), Community Leaders (CLs), Summer Community Assistants (SCAs), and volunteer Residence Orientation Leaders (ROLs). This position may also supervise co-op and work study students as required.Further, the Coordinator is responsible for the training and support of para-professional staff; with regards to programming; collaborating with campus partners and stakeholders; and the use and implementation of effective evaluation tools. In addition to coordinating residence-wide programs for Residence Life, the position also coordinates large-scale events for Residence Services, including recognition activities and banquets.Job RequirementsThis position requires a minimum of an undergraduate degree plus a minimum 3 years of experience in program development, implementation and event planning for students in a higher educational or similar environment;An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.In addition this position requires:

  • Demonstrated success in organizing programs and events
  • Proven ability to develop and implement effective procedures and policies for programming and events management
  • Demonstrated knowledge and application of student development theory
  • Experience with creating and monitoring budgets
  • Supervisory experience
  • Experience developing and teaching training sessions and workshops
  • Demonstrated success in building collaborative working relationships with people representing varying interests.
  • Collaborative and supportive leadership style
  • Ability to work under pressure, meet tight deadlines and effectively handle changing priorities
  • Exceptional attention to detail and problem solving ability
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills; ability to share information in a collaborative and effective manner
  • Ability to work independently and with a team
  • Ability to work weekends and evenings as required for programs and events
  • Valid Class Five Driver’s license
