Lead Transport SchedulerWe are recruiting a Lead Transport Scheduler to work as part of a team that plans all Howdens deliveries from our distribution centres to the depots. The scope includes both domestic and international deliveries across the Primary and XDC service.The Lead Transport Scheduler will be a subject matter expert across the range of planning functions – including load building, day scheduling, night scheduling, XDC scheduling – and will have in-depth knowledge of how to use all the transport systems.The Lead Transport Scheduler will foster and achieve exceptional standards in safety, service, compliance, and efficiency through their own day-to-day planning and the effective management of their direct reports.What will you be doing as a Lead Transport Scheduler:
- Ensure scheduling complies with regulations and the Company’s Health and Safety Policy.
- Prioritise health and safety within the scheduling team and operations.
- Manage the scheduling of domestic and international demand, including XDC distribution.
- Integrate additional transport movements, such as HWS and backhauls, into the plan.
- Coordinate asset collection and reverse logistics from depots.
- Maintain precision in all transport plans and reports.
- Experience of using systems like SAP TM, TMS, Microlise, IDS, and WMS.
- Lead and mentor teams responsible for load building and scheduling.
- Foster a collaborative, high-performing team environment.
- Create cost-effective transport plans without sacrificing quality.
- Analyse reports to identify and drive improvements.
- Use data to inform decisions and optimise processes.
- Address depot service issues promptly.
- Collaborate with warehouses, transport teams, and partners for seamless plan execution.
- Resolve scheduling conflicts impacting depot deliveries.
- Ensure efficient, safe, and cost-effective execution during peak periods.
- Adapt to changing circumstances and peak demands.
- Stay composed under pressure while managing multiple tasks.
What do you need to qualify for the Lead Transport Scheduler:
- Transport Manager CPC certified an advantage.
- Equivalent of A-Levels or higher.
- Experience of working in a transport planning or logistics planning environment.
- Experience of a leadership or supervisory role.
- A working knowledge of the key parts of transport legislation (e.g. drivers’ hours).
- An understanding of KPIs that help drive continuous improvement.
- Experience of using Transport Management Systems, including SAP TM (WMS an advantage).
- Experience of using MS Office packages incl. MS Excel.
- Must have excellent UK geographical knowledge.
